Tonsils are two clumps of tissue on either side of the throat in a pocket at the side of the roof of the mouth. Main function of this is to defend the incoming germs before the getting infected in the throat, mouth and sinuses. Tonsils protect against germs by producing antibodies. By attacking bacteria and viruses, antibodies play an important role in the body's immune system. In the process of protecting the body, the tonsils can become infected themselves.

Tonsillitis is the inflammation of tonsils caused by an infection. In this condition the tonsils get reddish and enlarged with yellow colour mucous coating. Usually sudden onset with sore throat. Tonsillitis can spread from person to person through contact of oral and nasal fluids.

• fever
• reddish  tonsils
• chills
• swollen glands in the neck
• breathing difficulty

Ayurveda and Tonsillitis

In ayurveda this condition is called thundikery, in this condition the pitta dosha get vitiated and the above mentioned symptoms will get manifested. Tonsillitis can become serious. Infection may spread beyond the tonsil to form an abscess with a localized collection of pus. The most serious complication of tonsillitis is rheumatic fever accompanied by rheumatic heart disease; Other complications of tonsillitis include middle-ear infections and sinus infections.

Regarding treatment, there is most effective treatment for tonsillitis without antibiotics or long standing medicines.

In our research Centre we have developed a unique treatment procedure mentioned in ayurveda with herbal medicine which can cure acute, recurrent and chronic tonsillitis in one or two appointments.

Remember tonsils are considered “first line of defence" against upper respiratory tract infections, which enter the body through the nose, mouth, and throat.

if tonsils are taken out infection fighting cells and anti-bodies produced by tonsils get affected and the body immune system get compromised.
